We are Maryland’s Bathroom Remodeling Experts
A beautiful, well-designed bathroom is truly one of the great joys of modern life. An updated bathroom not only works well, but it can also provide peace, solitude, and spa-like luxury.
At C.K. Lewis Construction, Inc., we help our Maryland clients build dream bathrooms that look great and may even increase the value of their homes. While remodeling small spaces may seem simple, the complex plumbing and water issues make this one of the most complicated remodeling projects. We recommend using a systematic, step-by-step approach to ensure that all your needs are met.
Step One: Evaluate Your Bathroom Space
Start by mapping out every part of your bathroom. You or your contractor should measure the floor space without cabinets and fixture, inventory plumbing, evaluate water heaters, make sure home framing and construction is free from water damage, and understand all the structural restrictions. Each of these factors will affect the time and money needed to remodel your bathroom.
Inventorying plumbing and structures will also help you understand what it takes to make specific changes, so you can prioritize your wish list. For example, if you wanted to add a claw foot tub, but then discovered this addition required structural reinforcements in the home’s framing, you might want to rethink that request.
The Second Step: Write Down Your Bathroom Remodeling Goals
When it comes to remodeling bathrooms, the options are almost endless. That’s why it’s so important to start by identifying your overarching remodeling goals. For example, instead of saying, “I want a big clawfoot tub to soak in,” you might think about why that idea appeals to you. Then restate it as a remodeling goal such as, “I want a spa-like soaking experience,” or “I want to include elegant, old-fashioned elements,” or “I want a tub that will allow me to soak, submerged to my neck.” When you restate your wish list of features into broader remodeling goals, you allow the contractor to recommend new ideas and solutions
Focusing on goals can make it easier to create a space you love without blowing the budget. It also makes it possible for your contractor to suggest solutions that are completely new to you.
And Finally, Find the Bathroom Contractor That’s Right for You
While there are a lot of designers, installers, and bathroom remodeling contractors out there, you need to find the one that is right for you. When you speak with a contracting professional, start by discussing your goals for the project, and then show them specific ideas.
A skilled contractor can improve your design by suggesting new features, revised layouts, more efficient storage, or save money by suggesting alternatives to costly customizations.
Look for a contractor that can deliver a bathroom you’ll love while working within your budget. Start by sharing your total budget. This allows your contractor to know if their abilities and approach will meet your expectations.
And make sure to request at least three references, and call each of them, before making a final decision. Check your contractor’s ranking with the Better Business Bureau and make sure they are licensed, insured, and bonded.
